The day she brought a non-fiction book on the Titanic to a second grade classroom, years before the movie came out, was the day that Kathy Baxter’s life changed. Her almost frantically excited audience led her to try to find other books that would thrill and motivate the children as much. Five years later, she wrote an article for School Library Journal magazine on how well non-fiction booktalking worked in the classroom, and, much to her astonishment, she was asked to write a column, now in its twelfth year.
Kathy searches high and low to find just the thing, the books that kids will beg to read. Her funny, pithy booktalks, illustrated with dozens of PowerPoint pictures, have delighted and enthralled teachers, librarians, and parents all over the USA and Canada. |
