Sally Cook

Sally Cook - author

As a freelance journalist for such publications as the New York Times, Parenting, and Family Circle, and now as an author of children’s books, Sally has a great deal of experience to share with students about the writing process. She has addressed audiences in schools and libraries all over the United States and abroad, in places as far-reaching as Vietnam. For kindergartners through third-graders, she uses a PowerPoint presentation based on her book Good Night Pillow Fight to explain the book-making process, and she ties in a simple art project to give children a chance to explore their artistic talents. For children in grades 3-5, Sally describes, in a light-hearted tone, the process of researching her nonfiction picture book Hey Batta Batta Swing!: The Wild Old Days of Baseball. She closes with a baseball trivia quiz, inspiring students to see the fun of delving into just about any topic.

Fee:

$1,000 for three presentations, plus travel and lodging from her home in New York City.
