Laura Vaccaro Seeger - author and illustrator

Laura Vaccaro Seeger’s books allow children to see the world differently. The flip of a die-cut page may reveal a hidden aspect of a familiar object or creature, or connect some detail to a larger universe. In her First the Egg/Lemons Are Not Red workshop (based on those two books of hers), Laura shows children how they can create similar experiences of discovery with their own artwork. Laura uses her books about Dog and Bear (the second title about the duo, Dog and Bear: Two’s Company, will release in April 2008) to discuss the importance of character development in telling a story.

Congratulations, Laura, on your recent awards! Dog and Bear: Two Friends, Three Stories won the Boston Globe/Horn Book Award and First the Egg won a Caldecott Honor.
