Let us know that you are beginning your own chapter so we can supply you with information before your meetings.

Then, take a photo or a video during your book club, send us a caption, and let us know what your chapter thought about the books: we'll post them on these pages about Chapter & Verse.

Chapter & Verse currently has 8 editions, each co-sponsored by the hosting location and Winding Oak. Locations and meeting times can be found in the list in the left column.

Join us! This is one of the best book clubs in which you'll ever take part. Friendly, welcoming ... and we all love to read books written for children and teens. There's always room in the circle for another book club member.

Click here for full details about each location.

Wish to begin your own Chapter & Verse book club? Let us know and we'll provide discussion questions and suggestions for your meetings.

19 and 20 April 2017
Boy in the Black Suit   You Don't Even Know Me
19 and 20 April 2017:
Chapter & Verse,
a book club for adults
discussing children's lit

Let's talk about books that share the lives of current teens in their daily lives, not as representatives of certain civil rights statements or historical lessons. The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds and Sharon Flakes' short story collection, You Don't Even Know Me, are the selections for this month. Please share titles of other books that fit into these parameters ... books you can recommend wholeheartedly.

17 and 18 May 2017
It Ain't So Awful, Falafel   Their Great Gift
17 and 18 May 2017:
Chapter & Verse,
a book club for adults
discussing children's lit

How does it feel to live in America when you were born elsewhere and don't yet understand all of the pop culture references and foods and customs? Many of our children are experiencing this newness, or our children who have always lived here are making friends with immigrants. It Ain't Awful, Falafel by Firoozah Dumas and Their Great Gift: Courage, Sacrifice, and Hope in a New Land by John Coy and Wing Young Huie are the selections for this month. Please share other books about the immigrant experience, in America or elsewhere, that you can recommend to other readers.

  Pippi Longstocking   Their Great Gift
14 and 15 June 2017:
Chapter & Verse,
a book club for adults
discussing children's lit

Each year, our book clubs read a classic book, which we define as something published in the 1950s or earlier. Sorting through many suggestions, we're going to discuss Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren. How does Pippi hold up in 2017? Is this a classic that translates into the present?

If you're feeling adventurous, read the book in the original Swedish!
